Waverley steams on past Ventnor, Shanklin, Sandown, Culver Cliff, Bembridge, the Solent Forts, glimpses of Osborne House and the Cowes waterfront on her way back to Yarmouth Pier.

Waverley on London’s River

We join the steamer at Gravesend for an up river sailing to London, passing under the QE2 Bridge, sailing past the high rise buildings of Canary Wharf, historic Greenwich and the excitement of Tower Bridge opening for the ship before she turns just below London Bridge. Includes archive footage of Waverley’s first Thames visit in 1978, Eagle Steamers’ MV Royal Sovereign and PS Jeanie Deans as ‘Queen of the South’. We’re joined by maritime historian Peter Box for the history of Thames sailings since early Victorian days.
