Description
A stunning broadcast-quality documentary ...
Paddle Steamer Kingswear Castle is a masterpiece of preservation. Beautifully restored, this small coal fired steamer sails again on her native River Dart.
With the help of maritime historian Richard Clammer, in this programme we trace the steamer’s history from her origins on the River Dart, through her restoration in the 1970s, her very successful operation on the River Medway until 2012 and her return to Dartmouth. Includes archive footage.
PS Kingswear Castle returned to her native River Dart in 2012 after an absence of over 45 years. She is now operated under charter from Paddle Steamer Kingswear Castle Trust to Dart Pleasure Craft Ltd and in conjunction with the Dartmouth Steam Railway, which runs steam trains from Paignton to Kingswear.
The DVD ' Paddle Steamer Kingswear Castle, a voyage through her life' was extensively updated in 2015. The update includes footage of the vessel being prepared at Chatham for the tow back to the Dart, her arrival in Dartmouth on 18 December 2012 and the ship being refitted for the 2013 season to carry passengers on the River Dart.
Footage is also included of the ship in steam in 2013 and 2015, and an interview with the vessel's skipper during a sailing downriver from Totnes
Written and presented by Chris Phillips and maritime historian Richard Clammer.
Filmed and edited by award winning director David Ellery, with original music by Jonathan Cohen.
